Hi, does anyone know if Pilen (ex-Dinky Spain) still exists (maybe a site?)
I didn't find anything, except some loose cars. If it still exists, can it have a separate thread? Gr.Pierre

Hi Pierre

Well done Pierre we should give this subject an airing it is an important part of the Dinky history.

Yes I will open up a thread about Pilen. From memory Pilen of Spain produced some French Dinky models well into the late 1970's and they also produced for the Dutch market.I don't know what is left of the Company I will take a look around.I am sure some of our other Members will know a little more about the Company. I would like some more photographs of their models in the "Pilen Thread"
Kindest Regards
Nigel
Ps..Hope you are keeping well?

From 1974 onwards, french Dinky cars were made in Spain by Auto-Pilen.

Three major differences with the models made in Bobigny
• the models are marked "made in Spain'.
• The base plates are screwed or clipsed to the body rather than riveted.
• The yellow boxes have a different design.

The models can be called Dinky Toys at various degrees according their origin :
• Models made in dies from Bobigny without any modification except for the box and the marking.
• As above, but these models were also produced under the Pilen trade mark with Pilen base plate, hubs, colour and boxes.
• Models cast in french dies with modifications done by Pilen and sold as Dinkies or Pilen. This category includes the DS 23,
2 cv, R4, 204. My idea is that these are the LAST FRENCH DINKY TOYS.
• Models made in Pilen made dies and fitted with Dinky Toys base plate and hubs : the Citroën CX.
• Pilen models sold as Dinky Toys without modification. Same colour , hubs, finish, Pilen base plate with the name Pilen erased
and replaced by Dinky Toys marking (see photo) these are the last five models known as french Dinkies but are they Dinkies? :
11539 VW Siroco, 11540 Renault 14, 11541 Ford Fiesta, 11542 Chrysler 1308 GT, 11543 Opel Ascona.

There are two lots of Spanish Dinkies.

The first lot is like the south African Dinkies. they were made in France, exported to Poch where they were painted and assembled (with Pirelli tyres). The colours are different from the french painted models.

The second lot (made from 1974 until the end of Meccano France s.a.) by Auto-Pilen are described in my previous post.
