I am doing repairs on several 39 series cars and older Fodens and I would like some information as to what types of solder and flux work on the zinc alloy Dinky bodies. Also how does lead adhear to these bodies. Thankyou for any help |

Between showers at Brooklands in June 2007 a magnificent real 38a Fraser Nash. B.M.W. This has been a great year although the summer was very poor. Two trips to England with meetings with very nice people from this club and the other one. As David writes, there is nothing like a pint at the Rottingdean pub or the Midland Hotel in Derby. I just hope that more collectors will attend the next meeting in 2008. I also made visits to the National Railway Museum in York, the Coventry transport museum which has a collection of Dinky Toys, the Heritage Motor Center in Gaydon, I attended meetings at Brooklands (above) and at Amberley where I met the people who made the tools for the Coles mobile crane, the Aston Martin DB 3 S and other Dinky Toys. All in all a great Dinky year during which I collected a lot of information about our favorite hobby. I wish all the members that I have met and those that I have not yet a very happy and Dinkyfull new year. Jacques D. P.S. The Fraser Nash is not mine. |

Does anyone have or know where I can get a list showing the dimensions, length, width and height, of Dinky Toys. I am in the process of compiling lists for Corgi, Dinky, Matchbox and Spot-on, but trying to get details is difficult. Length is no problem as these are shown in catalogues, books etc, but width and height are not. Can anyone help please? Nick Hamilton-Peters

Hi Nick Apart from the Meccano factory drawings I do not know of a list containing length, width and height information. Factory drawings for all the Dinky Toys no longer exist so they are not exhaustive. This morning whilst I was doing some research I found from the July 1962 Meccano Magazine that the 987 ABC TV Control Room is 5 5/16" long, 1 3/4" wide and 2 11/16" high, so the 967 BBC Control Room will be the same. The 292 Leyland Atlantean Bus is 4 3/4" long, 1 1/4" wide and 2 9/32" high so the 291 and 293 Atlanteans will be the same So here are 5 to be going on with, towards the end of the year I will be able to do more work on this but for the next few months I am significantly involved in a huge book project. Regards Dave |

Morning I just bought a book (non-commercial publication) off eBay: British Dinky Toys 1964-1976 Complier: Ed Symons Echtenstein 138 Amsterdam Holland First Published 1977 (second edition 1977) Column headings No. Model (& Remarks) Colour(s) (& Remarks) L. mm Year Inro. It has 8 pages. Toys in numerical sequence, Action Kits, Dinky 1:25 Scale Models, couple of cross references. One reference to the Caledonian Autominilogists Club (Scotland) who produced a news letter 6 times a year. It would have took some effort to collect the data, compile, and create the pages. Sorry Guys I am not working on a book about Dinky Toys. It is a book about Bassett-Lowke '0' Gauge Locomotives. They were a model engineering company in Northampton from 1900 to 1965 and made some of the most stunning locomotives, carriages and railway wagons ever to be produced. Bing and Marklin also made items specifically for B-L. It is a big project and I am doing all the photography and page layout for the book which is due to be published around the end of 2012. I am a busy boy!!! Dave |

Dave Sounds very ambitious. I wish you a lot of success with the book. Do you have a publisher or will you publish it in a similar pattern as Geoff Webster did with his Dinky Toy Airplane book? Bob |

Nick If you create a list of the units for which you need numbers, then there maybe some of us who could help you. If we each supply some numbers for different models, then you list could grow quickly. You would need to provide exact patterns for the measurements so we would all follow the same set of rules. Bob, I'll get that done as you suggest. Measurements could be in either mm or inches, length, width, height. I'll get a list posted in the next couple of weeks. Thanks for your interest. Nick Nick Hamilton-Peters

Hi Nick I have all the post-war dinky toys between 1946 and 1963 both English and the American specials so I can do these. Whilst we are doing dimensions is it also worth doing weights in Grams ? Dave |

Hi Dave, That would be brilliant. If you can do weights as well it would be useful too. I have had a few dodgy models that I'm sure are counterfeit, but have not been able to prove it. Weights would be one way of helping to check these out. Once I have completed the list I will post it on the site for everybodys information. Nick Nick Hamilton-Peters

Hi Nick I have made a start on the military spreadsheet and would like you to see it so we can agree on the format. If you send me your e-mail address to earlsroad7@hotmail.com we can agree on the way forward. Dave |
