Evening I bought this model with a box. The box shows no tailboard. Subsequently I have seen several other models on eBay with a box that has no tailboard. Was this a common occurrence for this model? Was the model produced with boxes that showed a tailboard? Bob |

Dear Bob. The 513 Vixen with tailboard had at least four different boxes. The early ones with plain brown card and red / white labels showed the truck without the tailboard and with he ref. 513. The other three : blue, white and yellow have the tailboard. Was there a green box ? Which is your box ? Jacques. |

Bob, With your help, we have found that there were two different labels for the blue box. • a SUPERTOYS one were the truck is showed without the tailboard. • From May 1951 the box is marked DINKY TOYS and the tailboard has been added to the drawing. You may post some pictures, there are never enough. |

I should have added these comments to my prior post 1. Box base unit is all blue 2. No printed data on either side of box top 3. No printed data on box bottom 4. No printed data on inside of box top. Bob |

Hi All I have just picked up Guy flatbed with tailboard. It has had bad repaint (probably by a child) and needs restoration. On close inspection the original colour was grey (cab and flatbed) with a black chassis. Can anyone tell me what colour the wheels (they are the ridged type) and front mudguards should be please. Perhaps someone has a photo of the grey version? Regards Dave |

Hello David, The picture is not very good but I think that it answers your questions.

Thank you Jacques, much appreciated - Black wheels and mudguards. I guess this is one of the early ones. Regards David |

Perhaps a little too late to be of use, but still ...
Here my later same colour scheme version of Bob's Flat Truck with Tailboard, showing the later features like the grooved hubs and - not too well visible - the triangular front registration plate supports.
Underneath it show the now (1952) added catalogue number 513, but the early front axle clamps are still in use. The base now features the 'Dinky Toys' mark. As Dave's request is concerned:
Jacques already gave the answer, the early versions, like the grey one have satin black hubs. This photo is another confirmation.
This picture (thanks to Vectis Auctions) of a very early Slumberland, introduced in December 1949 shows that the black hubs on these early Guy models may have lasted until 1949/50. Kind regards, Jan Werner |

Nice photos Jan. All I have to do is find the correct shade of grey. A repaint will do until I can find a nice original example. The only problem is my wife no longer believes Dinky Toys cost 4 shillings. These TV programs (Bargain hunt/Cash in the attic) have a lot to answer for. Regards David |

Although I would love to have an original grey one, the one shown isn't mine either, Dave. Besides, it's a challenge to combine wife and Dinky Toys. Fortunately most of us seem to succeed ... Kind regards, Jan Werner |
